Forests are more than trees. Clean air. Clean water. Wood products. Recreation and educational opportunities. America's woodlands provide a multitude of benefits.
And because most of America's forests are owned by families, what happens on private forest land should concern all of us.
America's private forests are under siege. According to estimates from the USDA Forest Service, from 2000-2030, more than 57 million acres of private forestland could be impacted by development. Millions of acres are threatened by wildfire and pest and pathogens. Add to this, an aging ownership, with more than 150 million acres owned by someone 55 years or older, and it all points to a perfect storm brewing on America's forests.
The conservation of America's woodlands is a necessary and urgent priority. By conserving America's woodlands, we protect America's air and water, wildlife, and quality of life.
